For many years, I sailed on Army boats from modern yachts to some of the wooden yachts that were requisitioned from the German Government after WWII. The same yachts my Father had sailed during his national service. It was a wonderful learning curve for a newly qualified Yachtmaster. However, life on board was anything but comfortable: no hot water or heating, hanked on jibs (you needed to occupy at least 6 crew), there was always a rather damp feel onboard and on the old boats there was a load of brass to polish daily.
I will confess to having gone soft in my later years and hot water and heating are non negotiable. In these pages I hope to share some of the small items that make our sailing rather more comfortable.
